Cheers to Ben.

Our Ben is leaving. Use this space to toast or roast ....and let's give him a proper send-off.

  1. Wow. Ben, we have been working together for nearly 2 decades between Austin Knight and JWT INSIDE. It seemed like just yesterday when those Twinkies were flying, and the yard-long beers were swilling in Cabo. I missed the healthy marathon era of late. (But I did just hit the 4 mile mark). Perhaps you should tell me where I’ll be working next as we have been on parallel paths for 16 years!!!! J All the best with your latest chapter. - Michael

  2. On behalf of Trerin, I would like to extend our great sadness in seeing you go. You have been an inspiration to us all. I have never seen another put a JWT INSIDE pen back together with his eyes closed. We will toast Ben-tini's in your honor! Cheers!

  3. So many firsts with you: my first What's Up Dog, first colleague to require IM (we never TALK anymore), first exposure to IM acronyms (ayt? ty, wft?), co-conspirator in my first spa abuse charge. So much innocence lost.

Looking forward to hearing about the corruption you cause in your new environment,
    M.

  4. Ben---Although I never got to have the marathon run with you after work followed by martinis, I am hoping that is still an option for the future!

Wishing you all the best in this exiciting new chapter.

  5. There is a great man named Ben.
Who indeed is a man among men.
My friend your gain is our loss,
and to ask will our paths again cross.
The answer is not if, but when.

  6. Hey Ben - just heard the great news. End of an era though chap! I still count you as one of the key influences for me in getting into the Digital space, along with a lot of help from KT in the early days, and the lovely ET/HR.

I'm sure you'll be a huge success in your new venture, so good luck my friend.

Oh, and my favourite memory? Has to be the Bam Bam outfit from Bay to Breakers and your very generous and informative tour of 'exotic' fruits sellers in local neighbourhood - I learned so much that day...

Don't be a stranger now, and take care of yourself big man.

  7. There are many things I'm going to miss about you being here. Here are a few key items...

    1. Your uncanny ability to give someone a nickname that sticks like superglue. (Peteprice.com, Johnny Big Hands, My Sharona, Lyle Breems Attorney at Law, etc...). Maybe some people won't miss that, but it's certainly an amazing talent.
    2. The brilliant ideas you come up with that make me wish I had thought of them myself. The idea to sell beef jerky to all those deprived souls in the UK could be your best. (Don't even think about doing this without me, b*tch!)
    3. Your oh-so-slick method of exiting from a night of drinking with friends using only a taxi and broadcast text message. Only you could pull this off.
    4. Your tactic of kicking off a meeting by announcing that "I'm cranky", which seems to usually guarantee a quick, positive outcome with you walking away without any action items. Genius!

Seriously, I can't begin to express my gratitude for all the support, mentorship and guidance you've provided to me at JWT INSIDE. I'm going to miss you like crazy!

  8. First of all who knew Doug was a poet??? Or at least a Limerick man....

Ben,you will surely be missed. From your acerbic wit to your zealous care for the work and the friendships you cultivated over the years. Your contributions were many. All of us that worked with you consider ourselves lucky to have done so.
And I know that I will never and I mean ever, see a man 'chug' a twinkee as you once did in San Diego so many years ago.... Actually the more I think about that I truly hope that I don't! Good luck Ben. Lets do the Hermosa Beach duathlon soon.

  9. Ben it’s been a great second run together. I’ll greatly miss working with you and your ability to weave humor into a situation when most needed and often least expected. You are the only person I know that can give directions such as “take the whatever, call whatshername and update it and then post I to the whatever” and somehow I magically know what you are talking about. I wish you the best of luck in your new career. They are lucky to have you.

  10. Congratulations and good luck to Ben, a very fair and loyal man, well maybe not that loyal...ha, just kidding. It was a good run and I will miss all that is Ben; quick wit, baseball talk, keen mind and girly drinks. Keep me in your rolodex, I'll miss you.

  11. Wow – you’ve gotta get in quick on this board, or everyone nicks the best memories.(I’ll have to go halves with Kai on the beef jerky one.)

Thinking back though, I realized I owe many of my ‘first’ experiences to you:
    1. You took me to my first ever ballgame (which was also the first time I’d ever seen a guy order a cocktail at an outdoor sports event)
    2. You invited me on my first ever Vegas trip (where you became the world’s first human Q-bert, and the first to use lime-wedge twizzle sticks as substitute nipple tassles – see photos)
    3. As ‘Twinkie-Ben’ you hosted my first ever meeting as a UK JWT employee (Nov 4th 2004 - London)
    4. …and as ‘Marathon Ben’, you hosted my first ever meeting as a US JWT employee (Jun 20th 2007 – Chicago)

It’s been a blast, Ben. You’ve been an inspiring mentor and a great friend.

I’ll miss you loads. Or as the Welsh say, ‘lachalachalachalacha…’

  12. Ben, you and I share symptoms of post-traumatic stress syndrome as a result of our time working together with the world's largest aerospace company...so surely you will understand the blind spots in my memory that prohibit the sharing of hilarious memories. Let me just say I hope you enjoy your new life in Medazzaland and that you never cease to WONDER. Ding! Ding! Thanks for the flashbacks ~Kerry
